The severe thunderstorm watch has ended.
Previously, on Friday afternoon, Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) upgraded a severe thunderstorm watch into a warning.
“Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm capable of producing very strong wind gusts, nickel to ping pong ball size hail and heavy rain. This severe thunderstorm is located just north of Crossfield and is moving toward the east at 25 km/h,” Environment Canada state.
Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Strong wind gusts can toss loose objects, damage weak buildings, break branches off trees and overturn large vehicles.
“Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes. Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches. If visibility is reduced while driving, slow down, watch for tail lights ahead and be prepared to stop.”
The warning was in effect for Rocky View County and encompassed Airdrie, Crossfield, as well as Mountain View County near Carstairs and Stirlingville.
