A 44-0 shutout has paved the way into the Tier 2 south final of the ASAA high school football provincials for the Cochrane Cobras.

The Cobras face the Holy Trinity Academy Knights in the south final at 12 noon on Hellard Field at Shouldice Park this Saturday (Nov. 18).

The Cobras dominated the Bishop Carroll Cardinals on Nov. 11 at Shoudice Park. Up until then, the Cardinals were 8-0 on the season and came into the game ranked seventh, compared to the 7-2 Cobras, who were ranked sixth.

In advance, Football Alberta called the Cardinals “a bit of a mystery, wrapped in an enigma, inside a riddle when it comes to predicting their fate.” They said the team’s unblemished record was done within the confines of Calgary Division II where all the schools above them have played ranked Tier I opponents.

The Knights are defending Tier II provincial champions and also won it all in 2019. Ranked second overall in the regular season, the Knights defeated the Medicine Hat Hawks, 51-12, to advance to the south final.
