A Beaumont man is facing murder charges in connection to the death of a missing woman, according to RCMP.

40-year-old Treasa Oberly was reported missing last week, prompting police, search and rescue teams, and volunteer community members to scour the area in an effort to locate her.

On Monday (July 24) evening, it was announced by police that Oberly had been found dead. This prompted the Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit to take over the investigation. Investigators are advising people that they may see an increased police presence in the city over the next little while as they try to determine the circumstances behind Oberly’s death.

The investigation has prompted the arrest of 43-year-old Kenneth Skelly, who is now facing a charge of second-degree murder.

Skelly has been remanded into custody and will appear in court next week.

Police are asking anybody with information on this crime to contact the Beaumont RCMP at 780-929-7410.
